Reversing and manoeuvring vehicles on-site is a leading cause of workplace collisions. Our HGV Shunter Training aims to reduce accident rates and improve safety by equipping delegates with the essential skills and knowledge needed to perform shunting tasks safely and confidently.

Course Overview

  • Duration: 4 hours

  • Trainer-to-delegate ratio: 1 trainer : 2 delegates (max)

  • Location: On-site using your vehicle and yard area

  • Requirements:

    • C+E licence entitlement

    • Risk-assessed yard area

    • Suitable shunt vehicle provided

    • Proof of adequate insurance cover


Assessment & Certification

Each delegate is formally assessed during the course. A detailed assessment report with feedback and further training recommendations is issued to the employer.


Course Content

Delegates will cover the following key areas:

  • Daily vehicle checks (tractor unit and trailer)

  • Safe yard operations and workplace safety procedures

  • Full understanding of vehicle and trailer controls

  • Correct coupling and uncoupling techniques

  • Controlled manoeuvring in restricted spaces

  • Reversing and blindside reversing

  • Safe trailer parking procedures
