PDT and Esitu are excited to introduce our new seven hour CPC course to enhance HGV driver safety and performance.
PDT Fleet Training has teamed up with Esitu Solutions to create new accreditation driver CPC course
Esitu Solutions, in collaboration with PDT Fleet Training, has developed a seven hour Driver CPC course Road Sense: Mastering Hazard Perception. Based on over 30 years of academic research, this innovative training course aims to significantly enhance the safety and performance of HGV drivers by improving their hazard perception and risk assessment skills. Designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, the course offers valuable insights and practical skills to enhance driver safety on the road.
But Why choose this CPC course?
Academic Excellence and real-world application
Esitu Solutions prides itself on a strong academic foundation. Established as a spinout from Nottingham Trent University in 2020, the company was founded with the support of university funding and a grant from Innovate UK. Its primary aim is to deliver innovative, safety-focused training and assessments to the fleet market, based on their extensive academic research. Founders, Professor David Crundall and Dr Victoria Kroll, bring over 30 years of research experience in transport psychology, with a focus on hazard perception and risk-taking behaviour. This expertise forms the backbone of our Driver CPC course.

Comprehensive course structure
The course focuses on two core elements: assessing and training hazard perception skills and reducing drivers’ propensity to take risks.
Hazard Awareness and Perception: The first part of the course takes a deep dive into hazard awareness, exploring its definition and the scientific evidence that links it to drivers’ collision risk. The course also explores the Hazard Prediction Test, which Esitu’s published research has shown to be more effective at identifying risk in professional drivers. Using scientifically validated hazard clips, drivers will engage in interactive group activities, receiving error-based feedback to improve their hazard detection skills and reduce their likelihood of collisions in the future.
Risk Calibration: The second part of the course addresses risk-taking behaviour, exploring the reasons why drivers take risks on the roads. Using behavioural change techniques, the course examines various factors including cognitive control, the influence of ‘flow-state’, and personality traits that contribute to risk-taking behaviours on the road. Drivers will participate in dynamic group-based tasks to apply these concepts in practical contexts, aiming to reduce risk-taking behaviour in the future.
Practical tools and strategies
Towards the end of the course, drivers will develop behavioural contracts tailored to their specific driving contexts. These contracts offer actionable strategies for proactive risk management and safer driving practices.
Enhanced safety and reduced collisions
By enhancing hazard detection skills and understanding risk-taking behaviours, drivers can make informed decisions, manage risks effectively, and significantly reducing collision risks.
